Buddies

Outpost somewhere in the jungle.

During the game the player takes on the role of one of the nine male buddies, so that up to eleven (of a total of 12) buddies can be saved / encounter in the course of the game. These buddies add a few interesting ramifications to the game.

Buddies can be found in 2 different ways:

-You can do missions for various people(like the guards in front of the faction offices)

-Or find them wounded across Africa in specific locations(like the mountains in the NORTH part of the map with Pala - there is a small burning plane crashed in the cliffs and a buddy lies on the ground next to it, asking you to give him some syretts).

Your best buddy, the buddy you did the most missions with or for, will suggest alternate or additional 'side quests' to the fixed set of main missions that further the story of Far Cry 2. No matter who the best buddy is, these 'side quests', much like the main missions are always the same. The buddy suggesting them will just explain them in a different way, corresponding to his/her character and background.

Solving the 'side quests' your best buddy suggests when playing six of the main missions (per District) will yield some quite useful rewards, added to all unlocked Safe Houses:

1. Vehicle added
2. Single Syrette health pickup
3. Full Health Station
4. Ammo Pile
5. Fuel Pile
6. Vehicle-mounted weapon upgraded

Your second best buddy hangs out at unlocked Safe Houses (from time to time) offering to save and protect you, should you be fatally wounded. Note that getting saved by the same buddy will increase the 'history' between the both of you. It is thus possible to turn your second best buddy, into your best buddy.

Every buddy will ask you for help with some personal mission. There are two such buddy missions per buddy, and are always the same. Just visit the bar in the appropriate District when the map shows the active icon . Solving such buddy missions will also further the 'history' between the both of you, making it possible to turn any buddy into your best buddy, not just the first two you encounter.

Note: Excepting the 'bare' main missions, any buddy missions or buddy suggested alternate main missions, are completely optional, and are not required to further the story in Far Cry 2.

Andre Hyppolite

Flora Guillen

Age: 39 Nationality: Cuban-Angolan An excellent marksman, she knows her Warsaw Pact armaments very well. Educated in communist Cuba, she seems to choose her allegiances based on ideology rather than cash. She's got father issues. He was a Major in the Cuban army. He dumped the family for the military. Frank Bilders

Age: 48 Nationality: Kosovar Albanian POB: Prizren, Former Yugoslavia Height: 6ft 2in Weight: 240lbs Hair: grey Eyes: brown Exp: Paratrooper, YPA (ret.); bodyguard; teamster; guerrilla (KLA) A heavy drinker and smoker, it's taken a toll on his 48 year old frame. But still a bear of a man who can break you in two. Did his mandatory as a paratrooper before finding work as a bodyguard and enforcer in former Yugoslavia. Ran a small trucking company. Likes the high risk contracts, like here. Guess the money's better. He's supporting his family back in Europe. Marty Alencar
